Child Check if concerns arise about a home situation
Child Check
When you are admitted to or treated at Ikazia Hospital, you may be asked whether you are responsible for minor children.
The Child Check exists because - in specified cases - the practitioner is obliged to find out whether his adult patient has minor children at home for whom he/she cares. The Child Check expects care providers who interact with adult patients to also be aware of any damage that children may suffer due to the current situation in which the parent or person responsible for their upbringing finds themselves. In other words: signals from parents can also be a reason to take action for the benefit of children.
A Child Check will apply in cases such as severe or chronic depression, addiction to alcohol or drugs, attempted suicide, eviction or impending eviction, unmonitored pregnancy, or violence between members of a household.
Based on this information, the practitioner decides whether he needs to take further action and can discuss this within the team of Coordinators of Child Care and Domestic Violence at Ikazia Hospital. You may be contacted by one of the Coordinators in order to remove any uncertainties.
If concerns arise in response to a Child Check, the practitioners at Ikazia Hospital are obliged to act in accordance with the Reporting Code Act (www.meldcode.nl). This means that if - during hospital treatment or a visit to the hospital - concerns have arisen that may affect the home situation when there are minor children in the family.
Our hospital is obliged to discuss these with Safe Home AMHK (Advice and Reporting Centre for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse) [1]
The AMHK may advise that an investigation of a family situation is necessary and will then determine to what extent they can support you and provide assistance, if so required. The AMHK can also offer assistance in preventing domestic violence and guaranteeing safety at home.
Finally
Ikazia Hospital sets great store by the safety and welfare of all its patients. By complying with the Child Abuse Reporting Code Act of VWS, Ikazia Hospital hopes to help identify difficult situations at home or in people’s home environment and to provide timely assistance when needed.
You may ask to speak to the Coordinator yourself if you have questions about the mode of operation at Ikazia Hospital and/or if you are seeking help in your home situation.
You can contact the Coordinator from Monday to Friday on the general telephone number of Ikazia Hospital: 010 297 50 00
